The Eternal Spejbl and Hurvínek Legacy

Our beloved Spejbl and Hurvínek have a fascinating history that dates back to 1920. Spejbl was the brainchild of Czech puppeteer Prof. Josef Skupa, designed initially as a simple, retrograde teacher bewildered by the fast-changing world around him. In 1926, Skupa brought Hurvínek to life. This lively, sometimes lazy, sometimes hyperactive boy became the perfect foil to his father’s cluelessness.

The duo’s humor resonated so well with audiences that Skupa soon established a theatre dedicated to their adventures in 1930. Though the performances were primarily targeted at children, Skupa cleverly included subtle inside jokes that only adults could fully appreciate. Over the years, the Spejbl and Hurvínek duo achieved international fame, releasing comedy albums, starring in television shows, and becoming household names.

Eventually, our family expanded with the addition of yours truly—Ms. Katerina, aka Babinka—as well as my wonderful granddaughter Mánička. Together, along with our ever-chatty Žeryk, we breathed new life into their stories, mixing humor with heart and adding a distinctly family-oriented dynamic to the tales.
